Hello,
I've recently purchased a new 2nd generation iPod shuffle and I'm experiencing difficulties with the USB connection and my laptop. I’ve had the exact same iPod before but the charger broke and so I purchased a new one. My old one worked completely fine with my laptop and I never had problems with it. With the new one it’s completely different. When I first tried to plug in my iPod USB charger my computer stated that the ‘installation failed’ and so I checked my computer to see if everything was updated. It said everything was updated. So I restarted my computer and tried it again, this time another window popped up saying “Unrecognizable device” it then continues to say “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)”. I’m not exactly sure what that means. I don’t know what to do and I’m just extremely frustrated with it. The only tabs on the window of the USB are “General”, “Driver” and “Details”.
In the general tab has the following:
Unknown Device
Device type: Universal Serial Bus controllers
Manufacturer: (Standard USB Host Controller)
Location: Port_#0001.Hub_#0001
Device status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
It also has a small box down the bottom saying:
Change Settings.
In the Driver tab has the following:
Unknown Device
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 6/21/2006
Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Driver Signer: Microsoft Windows
It then has boxes (which you’re able to click on):
Driver Details: To view details about the driver.
Update Driver: To update the driver software for this device.
Roll Back Driver: If the device fails after updating the driver, roll back to the previously installed driver.
Disable: Disables the device.
Uninstall: To uninstall the driver (Advanced)
The box labelled “Driver details” is the only box you can click on, the rest aren’t highlighted.
When I click on Driver details another box pops up and reads the following: “No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device”.
In the details tab has the following:
Unknown device
Property: Device description. (If you click on the box it comes down with a list of things to choose from. I’ve tried to label it with the one I think is right, but it doesn’t work at all)
Value: Unknown device.
With the “Change Settings” box that was in the first tab labelled “General” if you click on it there’s yet another box that pops up that’s identical to the box that I had already open, except this time when you open the “Driver” tab some of the boxes are able to be clicked on.
The ones available are:
Driver Details – when clicked on it says the exact same thing as it said before: “No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device”.
Update Driver – when clicked on it opens up another window and reads the following:
How do you want to search for driver software?
1. Search automatically for updated software.
Windows will search your computer and the Internet for the latest driver software for your device, unless you’ve disabled this feature in your device installation settings.
(If I click this option it reads the following:
The best driver software for your device is already installed.
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
Unknown device.)
2. Browse my computer for driver software.
Locate and install driver software manually.
(I’m at a loss for this one. I’m not sure what to do.)
Disable – Not sure I want to click on this one and if I should.
Uninstall – Not sure I want to click on this one and if I should.
----
That’s basically it; any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to mention everything I possibly could. If you confused with all my writings I’m sorry. Tell me and I’ll try to write a better description.
Thanks.
